Flap-Free Laser Vision
EPI-LASIK (Epithelial Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) is a safe and effective laser eye surgery that reshapes the surface of the cornea to correct common refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, this flap-free procedure does not involve cutting a corneal flap. It is a preferred option for patients with thin corneas or those who lead active lifestyles.
This procedure is part of the surface ablation category, which also includes PRK and LASEK. EPI-LASIK provides long-term visual outcomes without the risks associated with flap-based techniques.
At Eagle Eye Centre, EPI-LASIK is performed by experienced ophthalmologists using advanced excimer laser technology. Our goal is to deliver safe, customised treatments with excellent results.

EPI-LASIK, also known as Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), is a type of advanced surface ablation that reshapes the cornea without the need to create a corneal flap. This approach eliminates the risk of flap-related complications that may occur in traditional LASIK procedures.
During the procedure, the thin outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is gently removed. An excimer laser is then used to reshape the underlying corneal tissue (stroma), allowing light to focus more accurately on the retina.

Custom EPI-LASIK is a more personalised form of treatment that uses Wavefront-guided technology to measure and correct not only common refractive errors but also subtle optical imperfections known as higher-order aberrations. These may cause symptoms such as glare, halos, or reduced contrast sensitivity—particularly in low-light conditions.
The Wavefront analyzer maps how light travels through your eye and creates a detailed visual profile. This data is then used to design a fully customised treatment plan for the laser system, allowing for greater precision and improved visual quality.

EPI-LASIK is an effective solution for treating a range of common refractive errors that affect how light focuses on the retina. These include:

People with myopia can see nearby objects clearly, but distant objects appear blurry. EPI-LASIK helps reshapre the cornea so that light rays focus properly on the retina, improving distance vision.
EPI-LASIK may be recommended for individuals who:
Pre-Refractive Assessment - Eye scans, evaluation, consultation.
Surgery Day - Eye preparation, laser correction.
Recovery - Brief rest, medication provided.
Follow-Up Care - Reviews on Day 1, Week 1, Month 1, and as advised.

Full recovery after EPI-LASIK can take up to 3 months, though this varies by individual. Patients are advised to follow post-operative care instructions closely, including the use of eye drops and attending follow-up appointments.
Patients may experience some discomfort, blurred vision, and light sensitivity. Halos and glare can also occur. Most patients begin using prescribed steroid eye drops during this period.
Vision typically starts to improve, and many patients resume light activities.
Most side effects such as dryness or glare begin to subside, and vision continues to stabilise.
By this point, most patients achieve optimal visual outcomes. Halos and glare are usually significantly reduced or resolved.
