Symptoms
Blurred Vision
Blurred vision refers to a loss of clarity in your eyesight, where objects appear hazy or out of focus. You might try rubbing your eyes or checking your spectacles for smudges, but the blur persists. Depending on the cause, blurriness may affect your entire vision or just part of it, such as centrally, peripherally, or in one eye only.

Eye Floaters and Flashes of Light
Eye floaters appear as small dark shapes such as specks, cobwebs, rings or squiggly lines drifting across your field of vision. These floaters are especially visible against bright backgrounds and tend to move when your eyes move. They are often grey or black and may appear to dart away when you try to focus on them.
Flashes of light are visual sensations that resemble brief camera flashes or lightning streaks. They can occur with or without floaters and are often caused by traction between the vitreous gel and the retina inside the eye.
While floaters and flashes are usually harmless and part of the natural ageing process, any sudden changes should be reviewed by an ophthalmologist.

Eye Pain
Eye pain can present in different ways. It may feel like a burning, itching, aching or throbbing sensation. Some people experience pressure behind the eye, while others feel discomfort when moving the eyes or blinking.
Mild irritation is often caused by eye strain or dryness and may resolve on its own. However, persistent or severe eye pain could be a sign of a more serious eye condition that requires medical evaluation.

Foreign Body Sensation
Foreign body sensation refers to the uncomfortable feeling that something is stuck in your eye, even when there may be nothing present. This may feel like a sharp or scratchy irritation and is often accompanied by watering, redness, or blinking. While it is often caused by minor irritants such as dust or eyelashes, persistent symptoms could point to an underlying eye condition that needs medical attention.

Halos & Glare
Halos are bright rings or circles that appear around light sources, such as streetlights or car headlights. Glare refers to intense light that can cause discomfort or make it difficult to see clearly. These visual disturbances often become more noticeable at night or in dim environments.
While occasional halos or glare can be common, especially after looking at bright lights, persistent or worsening symptoms may suggest an underlying eye condition that requires medical attention.

Loss of Vision
Eye pain can present in different ways. It may feel like a burning, itching, aching or throbbing sensation. Some people experience pressure behind the eye, while others feel discomfort when moving the eyes or blinking.
Mild irritation is often caused by eye strain or dryness and may resolve on its own. However, persistent or severe eye pain could be a sign of a more serious eye condition that requires medical evaluation.
At Eagle Eye Centre, our experienced ophthalmologists conduct thorough examinations to identify the root cause of eye pain and recommend effective treatment.

Red Eyes
Redness in the eyes or eyelids is often temporary and may resolve without treatment. In many cases, the redness appears due to enlarged or irritated blood vessels on the surface of the eye or surrounding tissues.
Some individuals notice mild itching, burning, or puffiness, while others experience more noticeable discomfort or changes in vision. It is advisable to avoid rubbing your eyes and to remove contact lenses until the redness improves.

Sensitivity to Light (Photophobia)
Sensitivity to light, also known as photophobia, is a condition where the eyes react uncomfortably to bright light. This can occur during the day, under artificial lights, or even with moderate lighting. Although the term means "fear of light," it typically refers to an intolerance or heightened sensitivity, often linked to underlying eye or neurological issues.
Photophobia may be temporary or chronic, and its severity can vary significantly between individuals.

Twitching Eyelids
Twitching eyelids, or eyelid spasms, are involuntary muscle contractions around the eyes. While typically harmless and short-lived, recurring episodes may signal a deeper eye or neurological condition. Many people in Singapore experience eye twitching due to daily stress, screen exposure, or poor sleep hygiene.

Watery Eyes (Epiphora)
Watery eyes, or epiphora, refer to excessive tearing, often caused by either overproduction of tears or poor drainage through the tear ducts. While occasional tearing from wind, dust, or allergies is common in Singapore’s climate, persistent watery eyes may point to an underlying eye condition that requires attention.
