Step 1
Pre-treatment assessment and pupil dilation
YAG Laser Capsulotomy is a non-invasive laser procedure used to treat posterior capsular opacification (PCO), a common condition that may occur months or years after cataract surgery. PCO can cause blurred or hazy vision, similar to the original cataract symptoms.
At Eagle Eye Centre, YAG Laser Capsulotomy is performed by experienced ophthalmologists in a clinical setting, following established Singapore healthcare standards to help restore visual clarity safely and effectively.

Posterior capsular opacification occurs when the back portion of the lens capsule becomes cloudy after cataract surgery. This capsule is left in place during surgery to support the artificial intraocular lens. Over time, residual lens cells may cause the capsule to thicken or become opaque, leading to blurred vision, glare, or reduced contrast.

YAG Laser Capsulotomy uses a focused laser to create a small opening in the cloudy capsule, allowing light to pass through clearly to the retina. The procedure does not involve cutting or entering the eye and is commonly used to restore vision affected by PCO.

YAG Laser Capsulotomy may be recommended for patients who experience a decline in vision after cataract surgery due to posterior capsular opacification. Your ophthalmologist will assess your symptoms, eye health, and visual needs to determine whether treatment is appropriate.

Most patients can resume normal daily activities shortly after the procedure. Some may experience temporary floaters or mild light sensitivity, which usually settle over time. Eye drops may be prescribed, and follow-up appointments help ensure stable eye pressure and visual outcomes.
Cataract surgery is generally safe and effective. While the cataract itself does not return, some patients may develop posterior capsule opacification, which can be treated with a simple laser procedure.
