Dr Stephen Teoh, a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialises in retinal surgery (including retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery, diabetic vitrectomy, diagnostic vitrectomy etc) and medical vitreoretinal diseases (including management of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, etc). He is also trained in the diagnosis and management of uveitis and ocular inflammatory diseases, including immunosuppression with biologics and surgical diagnostic biopsies.
Dr Teoh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and completed his Ophthalmology training with a Masters in Ophthalmology (2003).He obtained his Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) and Academy of Medicine (FAMS) in 2005. He undertook dual subspecialty training in both vitreoretina (surgical and medical) and uveitis, ocular immunology and inflammation at the Bristol Eye Hospital, UK in 2006. He also underwent an Observership in Uveitis & infective uveitides including HIV-related ocular inflammation at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA in 2007.
He is well-versed in Comprehensive Ophthalmology including complex cataract surgeries, use of toric and multifocal IOLs, and pterygium excision with conjunctival graft (fibrin glue). He was Visiting Consultant for the Uveitis and Vitreoretinal Services at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital from 2010-2025, as well as Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Centre of Infectious Diseases (NCID) (formerly Communicable Disease Centre, CDC) from 2013-2024. Dr Teoh served as an Ophthalmic Advisor to the Harvard Medical School AIDS Initiative in Vietnam (HAIVN) CMV Retinitis Project from 2009-2012.
Dr. Teoh served as the Head of the Uveitis, Ocular Immunology & Inflammation Service and was also the Head of Research at Tan Tock Seng Hospital between 2007-2013. He has been invited to present at numerous local and international conferences, and has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His main foci of research include Infectious Uveitides and HIV Ophthlamology. He held several national and local grants of over $1.5m and was involved in several pharmaceutical-led trials and collaborative clinical research with A*Star, SERI, NTU and other restructured hospitals in Singapore.
He was a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS and a Clinical Faculty at the University of Manchester–Singapore Polytechnic Optometry Degree Programme between 2009-2012. He had and still gives Educational lectures at public symposia, Nanyang Polytechnic to Optometrists, at the Ophthalmology National Continuing Medical Education (CME) lectures to Residents, and CMEs to Specialist peers at the Parkway and Mt Alvernia Hospitals.
