Dr Cheah Way Mun is a senior ophthalmologist and a Director of Paediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus Services at Eagle Eye Centre. His clinical interests include the management of childhood eye conditions such as refractive errors, myopia, amblyopia, strabismus, congenital and developmental eye diseases, as well as paediatric anterior segment conditions. He also manages a full range of general ophthalmological conditions in adults.
Dr Cheah graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Singapore in 1975. He went on to obtain multiple postgraduate qualifications, including Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, the Academy of Medicine Singapore, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom), the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He received the prestigious Colombo Plan Scholarship to the University of Edinburgh in 1979 and later completed Ministry of Health HMDP subspecialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismology at the Sydney Eye Hospital, University of Sydney.
Prior to his current practice, Dr Cheah held several key appointments in Singapore’s major healthcare institutions. He served as Head and Consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was a Visiting Consultant in Paediatric Ophthalmology at the National University Hospital, Singapore National Eye Centre, and School Health Service. He was also a Part-Time Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the National University of Singapore from 1980 to 1988.
Dr Cheah has been deeply involved in professional and community service. He served as President of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology, Co-Chairman of the Scientific Committee for the XXV World Congress of Ophthalmology in Singapore, and Examiner for the FRCS (Edinburgh) Ophthalmology examinations. He continues to contribute as a Visiting Consultant to the Singapore Society of the Visually Handicapped.
Beyond clinical work, he previously served on the Executive Board of the Children’s Aid Society (Singapore) and has been involved in ongoing community and educational initiatives throughout his career.
