Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty

Your eyes are often the first thing people notice about your face. They are an important aspect of “facial attractiveness”. Our eyelids protect our eyes in addition to adding to its overall cosmetic appearance.

There might be a time when your upper and/or lower eyelids may become “droopy” or “baggy” because the eyelid skin stretches. This most commonly occurs because of the ageing process, but also may be hereditary. Your eyebrows may also sag or droop as part of the same processes.

Some eyelid conditions are so severe that it causes functional problems impairing our field of vision or cause difficulty in wearing glasses.

Surgery

At Eagle Eye Centre, we do Blepharoplasty. A surgical method to improve the appearance of the eyelids.

The goal of Blepharoplasty is to reduce baggy and sagging tissues. These tissues include skin, muscle, and fat pockets.

There are a few approaches that we can do depending on your assessment. If there is a need to remove the fatty tissues from the lower eyelids and no skin is involved, our Specialist can perform the surgery from behind the eyelid, a surgery know as “transconjunctival blepharoplasty”may be performed. In this technique, there are no visible scars as they are all hidden behind the eyelids.

In other situations where the eyebrows are droopy, we may need to do brow or forehead lifts. This procedure can be done by multiple means. We can directly approach the section above the eyebrows, within the forehead creases, or by the hairline as a “coronal brow lift”.

After Surgery

Cold copresses are applied to the eyelids to reduce bruising and swelling. These are followed by warm compresses to improve the blood flow. No Patching is needed. Antibiotic ointment is applied to the eyelids to aid with the healing process.

Discomfort is usually minimal after surgery. Anti-platelet (blood thinning) products (such as Aspirin, Ticlid, and Plavix) should be avoided before and after surgery because their tendency to increase bruising.

Blepharoplasty can be the cosmetic and functional solution you’re looking for. It is a procedure done with minimal risk of serious problems.
