Operating at 400 HZ while applying 400 treatment pulses per second, many people can receive vision correction treatment in as little as 8 seconds, some even less. Wavefront OptimizationT state-of-the-art technology provides superior results with WaveLight's Wavefront OptimizedT approach. The health of your eyes is critical and their safety a fundamental requirement. Therefore, ALLEGRETTO WAVE comes with a unique safety feature: PerfectPulse TechnologyT. This sophisticated technology ensures that the entire treatment and each pulse of the laser beam are completely controlled. This means that every laser pulse is completely controlled as it is applied to the eye using intelligent pulse management. The laser pulse energy is checked three times in order to assure consistent energy output. Its active eye tracker can follow the fastest eye movements to ensure accurate placement of each laser pulse.

Active Eye-Tracking System
Using a fine laser beam at such high speed, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q relies on its 400 Hz synchronous, video-based, active eye-tracker to follow even the fastest eye movements with a response time of less than 6 ms.

Cross Line Projector & Cyclotorsion
Finding the eye's right treatment position and avoiding displacements caused by cyclotorsion is one of the most important factors in obtaining an excellent refractive outcome. The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q's integrated cross line projector provides the surgeon an exact alignment of the eye's position. The target diode which generates a red light cross hair on the patient's face, illustrating the correct position in coordination with the manual marks. With the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q one can also treat difficult cases or patients with a high cyclotorsion value up to 15% and still produce excellent results. This was demonstrated by the FDA clinical trials having a cornering predictability from ± 0.5 D.

Speed
The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q works with a pulse frequency of 400 Hz. This results in a correction time of only 2 seconds per diopter (considering a fully corrected optical zone of 6.5 mm). Thus, the average myopia correction takes about as little time as pouring a cup of coffee. The rapid repetition rate also results in expedited vision regeneration, more comfort for the patient and a minimization of influences from the external environment. Another advantage of both faster treatments and fewer post-treatment requirements is an optimized patient flow.

Small Spot Laser Beam
The ALLEGRETTO WAVE's "Gaussian" beam was designed to create a more even and smoother corneal surface. With the smallest excimer laser beam, only 0.95 millimeters in diameter, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE allows surgeons to finely sculpt the cornea with precise accuracy. In addition, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE's proprietary beam placement pattern allows only every 5th pulse to overlap. This is critical in preventing damage from corneal heating.

Peripheral Pulse Compensation
With the ALLEGRETTO WAVE's peripheral pulse compensation, the cornea maintains its aspherical shape and does not distort light entering the periphery like a more spherically shaped cornea would. This large, effective treatment zone minimizes the size of the transition zone (area between the treated and non-treated cornea). A large, effective treatment zone with a minimal transition zone can influence the quality of vision, especially at night when the pupils are dilated. The ALLEGRETTO WAVE's wavefront-optimized treatment aims to preserve or improve quality of vision as it specifically addresses higher order spherical aberrations in regard to glare.

Difference between Wavefront LASIK and Standard LASIK
The standard LASIK treats one's refractive error the way spectacles and contact lenses treat distortions caused by myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, but no more than that, just the standard treatment for all. Wavefront LASIK is similar except that we use a modified software that personalizes the treatment for each individual taking into account each individuals different eye characteristics and treats not just these refractive errors but additional "aberrations" or simply, "distortions" not due to myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. One such additional "aberration" and the most prominent one, is "spherical aberration".
